Where is the boundary between coaching and therapy?

Dr Hannah Bryan discusses EMDR-informed coaching as performance-focused work and considers how it differs from therapy. That distinction matters because borrowing ideas from a therapeutic model does not automatically turn coaching into trauma treatment.

The episode invites practitioners to be clear about the purpose and limits of the work. The client's goals, the practitioner's role and the context all help determine whether coaching is an appropriate frame or whether the work belongs in therapy.

How can EMDR ideas be adapted thoughtfully?

EMDR-informed coaching is not simply a matter of transferring a therapy protocol into a different setting. Hannah and Natalie explore adapting ideas in a way that remains connected to the client's performance goals and to the boundaries of coaching.

Choosing an approach therefore involves more than asking whether a technique could be useful. It also means considering whether it fits the work being offered, the practitioner's competence and what the client is actually seeking support with.
