ABOUT THE EPISODE

2024 wrap up: The 20 big questions

Dr Natalie Stott closes Season 1 with a reflective exercise for therapists. The 20 questions offer a way to look back at clinical work, notice what has developed, and plan for the year ahead.

  • Looking back over the year as a whole
  • Reflecting on clients and clinical work
  • Noticing your own development
  • Thinking ahead to the next year

What can therapists learn by looking back over a year?

Natalie's twenty-question exercise creates a structure for reflecting on clinical work rather than moving straight into another year. Looking back can help therapists notice themes across their work, including what has developed and what may still need attention.

Reflection is not only an audit of what went well. It can also make room for uncertainty, changes in confidence and aspects of the work that felt difficult, so that the year is considered with more nuance than a list of achievements or failures.

How can reflection inform the year ahead?

The episode links reflection on clients and clinical work with the therapist's own development. This can help turn general intentions into a clearer sense of what to continue, what to leave behind and where further thought or support may be useful.

Planning from this position does not require predicting the whole year. It offers a way to choose priorities that are connected to what the therapist has actually noticed in practice and to revisit those priorities as the work changes.
